Comfortable Cornish Caper....
South Brent 253 for 5
Yelverton 3rds 71 all Out
Scorecard
Brent made the trip to Cornwall to take on Yelverton at Gunnislake looking to bounce back from last week’s first defeat of the league season.
Overnight rain meant a delayed start and a reduction to 40 overs per side, as openers Jarvis and Howells headed out to the middle to start Brent’s innings. A first over boundary from Jarvis set the tone as Brent batted well throughout. Mike Jarvis’ 55 laid the platform and gave the middle order freedom to play strokes put the pressure back on the fielding side. Dave Lewis and Chris Daniel did just this with a 130 run partnership that left Yelverton feeling the heat. Lewis (89) hit 7 fours and four 6s in a knock that saw the ball flying to all corners of the ground, and Daniel’s 51 supported this, then after Lewis had gone, pushed the score past the 250 mark and left the onus on the opposition to come out hard.
Yelverton couldn’t get going in reply, with their opening partnership of 22 being the largest in the innings. Rob Willoughby stole the show for Brent, taking a stellar 6-22 from 8 overs, showing fantastic control of the ball and consistently causing serious problems. Adam Cook mopped up the tail with a solid 3-10, and captain Lewis brought himself on and took the final wicket with his first ball to end the game.
A comprehensive victory for Brent which saw full batting and bowling points in a great all-around performance – perhaps something was left in the tank too whilst in the field.
S Brent 253-5 (Lewis 89, Jarvis 55, Daniel 51) bt Yelverton 3rds 71 all out (Willougby 6-22, Cook 3-10) by 182 runs. S Brent 20 points, Yelverton 3 points.
