Captain’s pre season updateThis year we have had a much disrupted pre season, with the hastily rearranged indoor nets and the wet weather. So I (as I expect you all are) have been a little frustrated at not being able to get practicing for the season ahead. I can only apologise if this year you haven’t been able to get as much practice in and hopefully next year we will have a better start. However the weather has finally broken and its looking like we may get start playing soon.
For anyone who may not be aware, the indoor cricket season has been a great success for the club. We put out two teams every Sunday evening since late September until March. The first team have been very competitive and were pushing to finish top of the league. There was consistently excellent batting, bowling and fielding performances from the whole team, making us a hard team to beat. The second team has been great for giving some match practice to some of our promising younger players. John Cranch did a fantastic job as second team skipper and has been very committed to developing our young players. Unfortunately, to date, two of our pre season games had to be called off as groundsmen around the county have been struggling to roll and cut the pitches. We are no exception to this, so if you can spare any time to help get the ground ready then please get in touch with any time you can offer. Hopefully work will be starting this week. I would like to see more people coming along to practices, if there’s anything different you would like to see then please get in touch or let me know. I would also like players to get in touch with the captains and let us know your availability. We have WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, club email, mobiles and playcricket website, all of which you can use to let us know what games you can or can’t play. I am very optimistic about this season, we had some very good results last year with lots of people contributing. There was lots of individual successes and lots of fantastic team performances. Our committee has been working hard over the winter to help start an U10 side. There will be 8 games this season and I am looking forward to see how they get on. Much credit should go to Adam Cook and John Cranch, who have been doing a great deal of work towards this. Club gear is now available through the link on this website. SBCC training gear and caps are now available. There are some club shirts still available to buy as well. Finally I hope to see you all very soon as we will be hopefully starting outdoor practice on Tuesday the 1st May from 6pm. As always new and existing members will be welcome. Dave We are delighted at how our first league games have gone this season, and we are thrilled to see several of our players featuring highly in the divisional statistics so far – even more so when we have a game in hand over most sides.
So far, in the batting stats Dave Lewis is the 3rd highest run maker in the division, Chris Daniel is 6th and Mike Jarvis 9th. No club has more batsmen in the top 10 than we do - Impressively only 6 players have gone past 50 more than once in the division this season – and all three of Brent's batsmen are in this list also! We have four bowlers in the division’s top 20 bowlers, by wickets taken, with Rob Willoughby in 6th with 9 wickets so far, Adam Cook and Sean Beavan are 13th and 14th with Mike Jarvis in 16th When ordered by economy rate, Brent take six of the top 20 places – Pete Glen is in third with a miserly 1.53 runs conceded per over, with Willoughby, Cook, Scott Malpas, Dave Lewis and Chris Daniel also registering well. In the field, we also well represented with Chris Daniel (7) and Mike Jarvis (5) 1st and 3rd in the fielding catches list. Also, as a club we have some congratulations to make – in the past fortnight 3 players hit batting milestones since the club reformed. Dave Lewis continues to pile on run after run and crashed through the 4500 S Brent career run mark – a fantastic achievement! Chris Daniel and Scott Malpas both passed 1000 S Brent career runs too, establishing themselves in 4th and 5th on the all-time list. Congratulations to all! S Brent 231 all out (45 overs) |
